Minor updates

Well, Kyle attempted to call me, and i missed it. damnit. He left a message saying he would begin his formal training on thursday, which leads me to believe he has been in paperwork limbo so far.

Come to think of it, today is thursday.

Or rather, it was 24 minutes ago.

Anyways, he is starting his shit now. tada.

He said also in the message that he would be sending a letter out soon. So, keep an eye here.

18 weeks of hell

Hey everyone, this is Joe, Kyle's friend and caretaker. As of this evening, Kyle is in Kentucky heading towards Fort Knox for his US Army Basic Training. This is will last ten weeks, after which he will graduate his Basic and immediately move into his specialized training. Specialized training lasts another eight weeks, after which he may get a short leave before he goes off to ranger school.

Ultimately, he is training to become a Ranger Cavalry Scout. Kyle, being kyle, picked one of the most ridiculously dangerous jobs the military has to offer. Basically, when no one knows whats over the next hill, its his job to find out what is.

As described by the army:

The Cavalry Scout is the commander's eyes and ears on the battlefield. When information about the enemy is needed, they call on the Scouts. They are responsible for reconnaissance and you will learn about various weapons to include explosives and mines. Cavalry Scouts engage the enemy with anti-armor weapons and scout vehicles in the field, track and report enemy movement and activities, and will direct the employment of various weapon systems onto the enemy. Here are a few of the duties of a Cavalry Scout:

  • Secure and prepare ammunition on scout vehicles
  • Load, clear and fire individual and crew-served weapons
  • Perform navigation during combat
  • Serve as member of observation and listening posts
  • Gather and report information on terrain, weather and enemy
    disposition and equipment
  • Collect data to classify routes, tunnels and bridges
  • Employ principles of concealment and camouflage

I'll be posting on his behalf, using parts from the letters we will send back and forth. So to anyone who gives a crap, check here regularly.

First contact from him via snail mail should be about a week and a half from now, give or take.

Back From Another World

Back from vacation, had oh so sweet a time. More on that later.

This post is one that I really don't think I should make, but I will anyways. Its directed at one specific person, and for Joes sake I guess I'll just say who it is.

Lindsey Brunk.

Yup. Her. The ex girlfriend. Nows the part where I talk straight to her.

Lindsey, you have called me several times recently to see if I wanted to hang out with you. While sort of interested, I have to tell you I don't know about it. Its hard to even talk to you. Rarely a day has gone by since June where I haven't thought of you, and it kills me. Yes, I've moved on from us. I don't even want you back anymore. You went your way, I'm going mine, fine. Whatever. But theres still a decent part of me that you have.

I'm really not sure I want to get together with you at all. You hurt me more than anything I have ever experienced in my life. Breaking up hurt me more than my parents splitting up. I've let most of it all go, I've forgiven you for all that, but I sure can't forget what happened. I definitely don't need to have you on my mind when I leave for boot camp, either. Remembering the hardest time of my life isn't going to help me out at all. When I talk to you on the phone you sound like nothing ever happened and everything should be fine. Its not. Hell, it wasn't that long ago you said you never wanted to speak to me again.

But, on the other hand, if I don't hang out with you, I'll always wonder in the back of my mind why you even wanted to.

*sigh*
